How to Change Countdown Widget Colors

To change your countdown widget’s colors in Soon, open Widgets, tap Explore styles, choose a color and a Look option, then tap Save; this panel requires Premium. You can also choose a light or dark widget background, independently of the app’s Dark Mode setting. Here is what each control changes and how to check the result.

1. Open the widget style panel

Open Soon and select the Widgets tab at the bottom. Scroll to Customize your widget, then tap Explore styles. With Premium active, this opens a panel with a small preview and four groups of controls: Colour, Look, Emoji, and Number size. The English interface uses the spelling Colour. You do not need to edit your countdown’s date or open its event details to change these widget settings. Without Premium, Explore styles opens the subscription screen instead; see the closing issue below before trying that route.

2. Choose an event theme or a fixed color

Under Colour, select Event theme to let the widget use the theme of the event it displays. Alternatively, tap one of the ten color swatches to keep a particular palette as the displayed event changes. These are preset color themes, including Sunset, Ocean, Elegant Black, and Forest; there is no custom color picker or field for entering a hex code. A fixed widget color changes the home screen widget’s appearance without replacing the theme on the event card inside Soon.

3. Select a Look, preview it, and save

Under Look, choose Colour to display your selected palette, Light for a white background with dark text, or Dark for a charcoal background with white text. Light and Dark take precedence over the color swatch, so tapping a different swatch while Dark is selected will not make the background colorful. Switch Look back to Colour to see that palette. Watch the small preview as you make changes, then tap Save at the bottom. Return to your Android home screen to check the widget itself.

Widget dark mode and app Dark Mode are separate

For a dark countdown widget, use Dark under Look in the widget style panel. To darken Soon’s interface, return to Moments, tap the settings icon at the top, and turn on Dark Mode. That switch changes the app’s surrounding screens and panels; it does not select a dark widget background. You can keep the app light and the widget dark, or use a light widget with the app’s dark interface. Soon has no widget setting that automatically switches between Light and Dark with your phone’s theme or a time schedule.

Adjust the emoji and countdown number

The same panel lets you choose Show or Hide under Emoji, and Normal or Large under Number size. Show uses the displayed event’s emoji; this panel does not select a different one. Large increases the countdown value rather than changing the size of every label. There is no font family selector or separate title-size control here. Try Large in the preview, then check whether the value and title fit comfortably in the widget’s available space on your home screen.

Choose a look you can read at a glance

Start with Light or Dark if your main goal is a plain background. If you prefer color, compare a few swatches against the wallpaper you actually use. After saving, look at the countdown number and event title at your usual viewing distance. Try another Look if either takes effort to read, and compare Normal with Large if the number feels cramped. You can make these comparisons through the widget panel while keeping the event’s date, title, and in-app theme intact.

Why the gallery and home screen can look different

Use the small preview inside Customize your widget to compare your choices. The larger gallery tiles above that panel continue to show event themes and do not reflect all saved style settings, including the chosen Look, hidden emoji, and larger number. Those tiles may look unchanged even after a successful save. The Android home screen widget also uses a simpler color background than the preview’s full gradient, so the shading can differ. Check the actual home screen result before changing your settings again.

One saved style applies across your Soon widgets

Soon saves one shared set of widget appearance settings. If you have several Soon widgets on your home screen, you cannot give each one a separate fixed color or Look through this panel. Choose a shared palette when you want a consistent appearance. Choose Event theme when you want the color to follow whichever event the widget displays. This choice controls appearance; it does not provide an event selector for each individual widget.

If your color change does not appear

First check that you tapped Save. If the app reports that it could not save, the panel remains open; try saving again and check available device storage if the error persists. If saving succeeds but the home screen still shows the old appearance, reopen Soon and check the saved choices under Explore styles. Confirm that Look is Colour if you expect a colored background. Avoid Reset app as a styling fix: it clears your countdown data as well as settings.

If the Premium screen will not close

The subscription screen can get stuck if you open it through Explore styles without Premium: Continue free can leave it covering the app. If it happens, close and reopen Soon to return to the app. You do not need to subscribe to dismiss a stuck screen, and reopening does not unlock Premium styles. If you already have Premium but the panel remains locked, try Restore purchases in Settings. For a persistent problem, contact support@hugosoftware.net and describe where the screen gets stuck.

Frequently asked questions

Can I customize countdown widget colors for free?

The dedicated widget style panel requires Premium. The free home screen widget uses its default colorful appearance based on the displayed event’s theme; it does not unlock the panel’s fixed-color, Light, or Dark choices.

Can I change the text color separately?

No. Look sets the text and background together. Light uses dark text; Dark and Colour use white text. There is no separate text-color control in the widget style panel.

Can I make the countdown widget transparent?

Soon’s style panel does not offer a transparent background or an opacity slider. Choose a preset color, a white Light background, or a charcoal Dark background.

Why does Event theme show colors instead of my photo?

The Android home screen widget uses theme colors rather than personal photos. Photographic cover themes fall back to Sunset colors there. A photo visible on an event card is not a photo background for the Android widget.

How do I return to the default widget appearance?

Open Explore styles, select Event theme under Colour, choose Colour under Look, set Emoji to Show and Number size to Normal, then save. This restores the default appearance choices without resetting the app.

Does a color change affect my countdown date?

No. The widget style panel saves appearance choices separately from your events. Changing its color, Look, emoji visibility, or number size does not change the countdown’s target date.

Count down to the moments that matter. Soon puts your next big day on your home screen: a countdown widget that ticks toward weddings, trips, exams and reunions, with photo covers and gentle reminders. Set it once, and the wait becomes part of the joy.
