How to Repeat a Birthday Countdown Every Year

To repeat a birthday countdown every year in Soon: Day Countdown Widget, select Every year under Repeat, then tap Start countdown. Changing an existing birthday through Edit is currently blocked by an editing issue. You can create a replacement with annual repeat instead, but first check whether your saved card already says yearly.

Can you make an existing birthday repeat?

The birthday’s detail screen has an Edit button, but the editing panel currently opens behind that screen and its controls do not respond to normal taps. The usual Edit, Repeat, Every year, Save route therefore cannot be completed normally. Annual repeat is available when creating a countdown. If the existing card has yearly beside its date in All Events, leave it in place: it is already set to repeat. Otherwise, create a new recurring birthday, or keep the original until you can edit it successfully.

1. Keep the details before replacing a countdown

Open the existing birthday and copy the date, any time, note, and location you want to keep. Choose a title that will still make sense next year, such as My birthday, rather than a particular age or year. Creating a replacement starts a new waiting history; it does not carry over the original countdown’s start date. If you have room, keep the original until the replacement is saved and checked. The free version allows two active countdowns, and a yearly birthday uses one of those slots. If both slots are occupied, decide whether there is an event you are willing to remove before attempting a replacement.

2. Create the birthday with Every year selected

From Moments, tap the plus button to open New Countdown. Enter a title and select the birthday’s next date, including the correct year. Leave Add time off for the birthday as a whole day, or enable it only if you want a countdown to a particular time. You can choose Birthday under Category, but that choice does not enable repeat. Scroll to Repeat, below Category, and tap Every year. Then tap Start countdown. Let the opening screen finish loading before beginning; if the form disappears while you are typing, reopen it and check whether anything was saved. Unsaved entries can be lost when the screen refreshes.

3. Check the saved date and yearly label

Return to Moments and find the new birthday in All Events. Its date line should include yearly. Open the card and check the full date, including the year, plus the time if you added one. These checks serve different purposes: the yearly label confirms the repeat choice, while the date confirms the occasion you are counting toward. If the card is missing, do not assume the form saved successfully. Keep your copied details and try again. Once the replacement is correct, you can delete an unwanted duplicate; check which card you are deleting before confirming.

What happens when the birthday arrives?

A birthday without a time stays current for the whole selected day. After that day ends, Soon advances the recurring event to its next annual date when the event list refreshes. A countdown with a time becomes due at that time, so its next annual occurrence can appear before the birthday itself is over. For example, a date-only June 10 birthday stays on June 10 throughout that day; a June 10 countdown set for 9:00 a.m. reaches its endpoint that morning. Use the date-only option if your intention is to mark the birthday rather than the start of a celebration.

How February 29 birthdays repeat

For an annual birthday originally saved as February 29, Soon uses February 28 in years without that date and returns to February 29 when it is available again. It keeps the original birthday as the reference for later years. There is no repeat option that changes this rule to March 1. If you prefer to celebrate on March 1 every year, you can create a separate annual March 1 countdown, but it will stay on March 1 rather than switch back in a leap year. Check the saved date carefully before using that alternative.

Why tomorrow may look like zero days

The app currently has a display inconsistency for countdowns without a time: some views count calendar days, while other views show whole 24-hour periods remaining. As a result, a birthday tomorrow can show one day in the list and zero days or Today! elsewhere. This does not, by itself, mean the birthday’s date changed or annual repeat failed. Check the written date and the yearly label before recreating the event. Changing the birthday to compensate for a conflicting number can leave you counting toward the wrong day.

A repeating birthday is not a yearly memory archive

Annual repeat moves the same countdown forward; it does not create a separate completed memory for every birthday. A finished countdown with No repeat can appear in Memories instead. If an old birthday is already there, its Restart with a new date button currently shows a message without opening a date picker or updating the event. Create the recurring birthday from the plus button if you want to keep that old memory and start counting toward the next celebration. You do not need to delete a completed memory to make the new countdown.

Set an alert separately if you need one

Every year controls the countdown’s next date; it does not schedule a birthday notification. Soon does not offer birthday reminder alerts or calendar sync. If you need a prompt to buy a gift or make a call, set it separately in your calendar. Google Calendar’s official Android instructions let you open an event, tap Edit, choose Add notification, set the timing, and save. Keep its birthday date consistent with the date you chose in Soon, especially if you use a different celebration date for February 29.

Frequently asked questions

Does choosing the Birthday category turn on annual repeat?

No. Category and Repeat are separate settings. Birthday labels the occasion; Every year makes it recur. A cake emoji or birthday cover also does not set the repeat rule. Check for yearly beside the saved event’s date.

Do I need Premium to repeat a birthday every year?

No. Every year is available without Premium. The free version’s limit of two active countdowns still applies, so check your available space if you need to create a replacement for an existing birthday.

Will the age in my countdown title change automatically?

No. Soon keeps the title you enter when the recurring date advances. A title containing a specific age or year will become outdated. Use a title without those details if you want it to remain accurate each year.

Will the birthday repeat if I do not open Soon that day?

When you return, Soon advances an overdue recurring birthday to its next occurrence. You do not have to recreate it each year. The Android widget also receives the repeat rule and can advance the date without reopening the app.

Can Soon import my birthday countdown calendar?

No. Soon does not import birthdays from a calendar or keep calendar entries synchronized. Add each birthday manually. If you also use a calendar reminder, maintain that entry separately when a date or celebration time changes.

Count down to the moments that matter. Soon puts your next big day on your home screen: a countdown widget that ticks toward weddings, trips, exams and reunions, with photo covers and gentle reminders. Set it once, and the wait becomes part of the joy.
