Time Until Alternatives for Offline Countdowns

Soon is a Time Until alternative for Android if you want saved countdowns that work offline without an app account, but it lacks a backup-and-restore feature. If protecting an event collection matters most, consider keeping Time Until. The comparison below also covers Countdown Widget. Soon is not affiliated with either competitor.

Start with the reason you want to switch

Decide what your replacement must do before moving any dates. Reading a saved countdown without reception, recovering events after losing a phone, and sharing a live countdown are separate requirements. An app can meet one without meeting the others. For a short list of dates on one Android phone, Soon is worth considering. For an archive you expect to carry between phones, prioritize a working export and restore process. Keep your existing collection until the replacement has passed the checks that matter to you.

What Time Until already offers

Time Until’s Google Play listing advertises local backup files for everyone and Premium cloud backups. It also lists count-ups, flexible recurrence, reminders, photo and video widgets, and sharing through images, videos or browser-viewable Live Links. Those are substantial reasons to stay. Its public description does not establish a complete offline guarantee; check the features you need in airplane mode.

Countdown Widget vs Time Until: Android features

Here, Countdown Widget refers to the Android app by Prometheus Interactive LLC. Its Google Play description lists calendar import, recurring events, notifications, adjustable fonts and colors, and countdowns expressed in years, months, weeks or days. Calendar import is a reason to consider it if your dates already live in a calendar; Soon requires manual entry. For backup and sharing needs, use the Time Until details above. Countdown Widget’s listing does not establish offline behavior or a backup-and-restore process. Check those in the app before treating it as an offline replacement. A home screen widget alone does not answer either question.

Where Soon fits

Soon saves event details and selected photos on your device, and its saved countdowns and Android home screen widget calculate time locally. You do not create a Soon account. The free version allows two active countdowns and includes the home screen widget and Memories archive. A new countdown can include an emoji, note, location label and optional time. Weekly, monthly and yearly repeats are available. Personal photo covers and additional themes require Premium. Soon has no in-app ads, although its Google Play description still contains an outdated reference to ad support.

Compare the actual home screen display

Soon’s Android widget shows one event: the pinned upcoming event, or otherwise the nearest upcoming date. Adding another copy does not let you assign a different event to it. The display uses days, Today, hours or Now rather than a continuously ticking seconds counter. Premium widget controls change colors, light or dark tone, emoji visibility and number size. Personal photo covers appear inside Soon; they do not become Android widget backgrounds. If separate dates on separate widgets or a photo behind the countdown are essential, Soon does not meet those requirements.

Plan the move before deleting anything

Soon has no event-file import, export or restore feature and no in-app cloud backup. Its Restore Purchases control concerns Premium access, not your saved events. You cannot bring a backup file from another countdown app into Soon. For a small collection, manually copy the title, date, time, repeat setting and any notes, then compare the saved result with the original. Keep original photos separately. For a large collection, manual recreation may outweigh the benefit of switching. Avoid Reset App unless you intend to erase your events and stored photos; it does not ask for confirmation.

Check offline use before committing

Use a disposable event before entering your full collection. Save it, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, close and reopen the app, and compare its date with the widget. Try creating another event while disconnected, too. Leave the phone overnight if daily widget changes matter to you. Check any paid feature separately: Soon’s basic countdown works locally, while purchases and subscription verification involve Google Play, and Premium access is not guaranteed indefinitely offline. Soon also checks online settings when connected. A successful countdown test establishes only the behavior you tried; it does not prove that backups, purchases or shared web pages work offline.

Soon limitations that matter when switching

Soon’s Share button currently displays a message instead of producing a card, file or system share menu. Editing an existing event can be blocked because the edit panel sits behind the detail screen. A payment screen opened from a locked theme or widget style can remain open after Continue Free, and a startup settings refresh can dismiss an unsaved draft. Date-only countdowns can also show different day totals between the list and large countdown display. If frequent date changes or consistent all-day totals are essential, these limitations should weigh against switching.

Check payment terms before buying

Both competitors are free to download with ads and in-app purchases, according to Google Play. Check the purchase screen for the billing type and current local price; do not assume a lifetime upgrade. Soon offers monthly and yearly Premium subscriptions through Google Play. Choose only after trying the free features relevant to your use, and read the renewal terms shown for your account. Paying for Premium does not add Soon’s missing backup, sharing or per-widget event selection features.

Check privacy claims separately from offline behavior

Soon’s Google Play description says event content stays on the device, while its Data safety panel declares possible collection and sharing of location and device identifiers. Those public statements conflict, so local event storage should not be read as a blanket no-data-collection promise. Time Until’s privacy policy also describes third-party services and diagnostic data. If privacy is your reason for switching, read each app’s current disclosure before entering sensitive notes. Use a neutral event title where possible, and remember that anyone who can see your home screen may see the countdown.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to replace Time Until just to get local backups?

No. Its Google Play listing already includes local backup files for all users.

Is Countdown Widget confirmed to work offline?

Its public Google Play description does not confirm that. Test saved events, new events and the widget without a connection before moving your dates.

Can Soon import my existing countdowns?

No. Soon has no countdown import tool. You must recreate events manually, so keep the originals until you have checked each date and repeat setting.

Can each Soon widget show a different event?

No. Widget copies share the same event-selection rule. Soon does not offer a separate event picker for each Android widget.

Does Soon Premium include photo widgets or backup?

No. Personal photos are in-app covers. Premium does not add Android photo widget backgrounds or an event backup-and-restore feature.

Which app should I try first?

Choose by your essential task: use the table to identify a candidate, then test it with a disposable event. Keep your old app until the replacement meets that requirement.

Count down to the moments that matter. Soon puts your next big day on your home screen: a countdown widget that ticks toward weddings, trips, exams and reunions, with photo covers and gentle reminders. Set it once, and the wait becomes part of the joy.
